| Is it not strange how people in
the caring professions, very rarely tell their story? They do
their job, sometimes extraordinary jobs with a lot of sacrifice,
love, care, respect and dignity. Very rarely complaining, nearly
always smiling and without them humanity would be a poorer
place. Is this a dream? I think not, the above can be seen, the
above can be experienced, the above is very much alive and
practiced 2000 meters up in the mountains of Sri Lanka. The
place is called MENCAFEP, this is part of it’s story... |
ANGELHEARTS
(Women in the Sri Lankan Mountains
learn by giving & doing) |

Experience is the best teacher,
so proverbial wisdom will tell us. For MENCAFEP’s senior staff
members Shyamalie, Miranda and Sunetha - experiencing was the
only teacher available when they joined MENCAFEP many, many
moons ago.
MENCAFEP call it ‘learning by
giving and doing’ and learn they have, everything from sign
language for the hearing impaired to toilet training for the
most severely challenged children. “We learn something new every
day,” Sunetha says. |
